Synopsis:
The Tao are an indigenous people of Taiwan who live on Lanyu (Orchid Island). Manawei is a young Tao boy left with his grandmother while his father is away working in the city. Chung-hsun is a jaded teacher who arrives on the island and sees as a backward of his career and life. As he desperately wants to get his former colorful-city life back, he sees an opportunity of getting decent performance evaluation by coaching students to participate in the annual Aboriginal Dance Competition. Chung-Hsun makes an unexpected bond with Manawei and the Tao people while he prepares for the competition to explore the lost pride and preserve culture.
自小由祖母養育的蘭嶼男孩馬那衛，總盼望能與在台灣謀生的父親團聚。來自繁華都會的新老師游仲勛，一心只想爭取記功嘉獎，期待早日調離偏鄉。於高雄舉辦的全國原住民舞蹈大賽，給了仲勛立功表現的好機會，馬那衛則想藉此飛到台灣，給父親一個驚喜。
但在集訓過程中，孩子們卻排斥代表達悟文化的丁字褲，不願穿著它上台表演。如何能讓下一代從文化中找回驕傲與勇氣？
本片改編自「小飛魚文化展演隊」的真實故事，費時六年籌拍完成，以達悟族世代文化為主軸，反映當今偏鄉教育現況，更細膩描繪祖孫親情，真實而感人。特別的是除了男主角外，其餘演員全由達悟族素人演出，配以蘭嶼的世外桃源風光，成為「台灣史上最蘭嶼的電影」。
