Xiao Mei, figuratively and literally, has vanished. Through a series of interview scenes from nine relative strangers, a mock-documentary tries to connect the moments leading up to Xiao Mei’s disappearance as well as gaining insight into her character. Each interviewee provides a snapshot of a young woman who is lost. As each segment merges into the next, we get to slowly unveil the mystery and lead down the rabbit hole as our hidden ‘investigator’ takes us on. The puzzle of Xiao Mei’s life is gradually pieced together.
金馬獎常客鍾孟宏擔任監製、攝影，一線演員陳以文、吳慷仁、柯淑勤等人共同出演，新銳導演黃榮昇以實驗、風格性極強的電影技法，拍攝女孩「小美」失蹤的故事。
電影中的九個片段是曾與小美生命軌跡重疊的人物，在房東、前男友、老闆、母親等等的訪談與回憶，逐漸拼湊出模模糊糊的失蹤少女樣貌。
《小美》涉及了離鄉、涉險、霸凌等子題的討論，在在顯示出創作者的社會觀察與探問：都市中寂寞的身影、薄弱的人際鏈結，身而為人，該如何存在？
