Program Introduction:
The program is a fusion of Taiwanese acrobatics and creative performance with Western elements, together with Hakka and Taiwanese aboriginal music and dance, thus presenting a mixture of Taiwanese cultures. With the perfect combination of the East and the West, tradition and modernity, we are looking forward to sharing with our international audience the beauty of Taiwanese performance arts.

Come help feed the needy with TAP-Seattle at FareStart, a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. FareStarts delivers meals 365 days a year to several area homeless shelters. We have 7 spots available to help prepare meals. Chefs will assign tasks based on individual skill and comfort level.

We ask that you commit to volunteering for the entire time, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We also ask that in the case of cancellation you provide us with as much notice as possible—this is very important as we need a certain number of volunteers to produce meals and often need to recruit replacements.

– Help seniors combat social isolation by meeting our nursing home residents

Kick off the inaugural Seattle Taiwanese American Film Festival with trailers of our featured films, and shorts by Taiwanese American talents. Followed by a panel discussion. The short films selected are Pool to Table, Color Positive, Never Let You Go, Patriotic Lottery, and The Blue Jet.

AR and VR equipment for Taiwanese traditional puppetry (from Father 紅盒子 film) will be available this event!

Shorts synopsis:
Pool to Table – Director: Tim Cheng. A documentary short about indoor shrimping, an all-ages pastime that’s found a following in Taiwan over the past three decades.

Color Positive – Director: Jessie Lee. After her father passes away, an emotionally distant woman returns home, only to struggle for closure.

Never Let You Go – Director Remii Huang. Emma bought her mom a robot to help her recover after a major car accident.

Patriotic Lottery – Director: Lian Kien Hui. A fun behind the scene of those fun Patriotic Lottery, through the eyes of artist Lin.

The Blue Jet – Director: Lawrence Le Lam. Set in 1970s Taiwan, this short is about legendary radio DJ, Blue Jet, who broadcasted banned rock and avoided the secret youth police.

At the age of 79, Chen set up his own troupe, which soon earned recognition all over the world. This film also shows the struggle in preserving a piece of culture/art in the modern world.

Synopsis:
Futing, who returns to the tribe (The Amis) on vacation, is suddenly told to replace his grandfather to participate in Sacepo’ (sea festival). However, as it’s already difficult for Futing to speak his own mother tongue, how could he catch fish in the sea? Just when he is about to escape, he meets Lisin, a lovely girl who stays in the tribe to work in exchange for board and lodging. Her eyes are full of admiration immediately when she hears that Futing is going to participate in the sea festival. Futing tries his best to impress Lisin.

一個在外求學的高中男生,暑假被媽媽騙回家照顧外公,讓他原本跟同學的環島計畫泡湯。從都市回到原鄉,一切都很不習慣,早餐不再是奶茶三明治而是原住民的傳統料理…而家鄉還有一個海祭的傳統,相傳部落的男性必須要在成年禮的時候游到巴克力藍— 漂浮於部落外海的一個小島,才算一個真正的勇士。而一位來到部落打工換宿的女孩,讓他對於故鄉的一切慢慢燃起了興趣…
