Mission Statement
Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP) enhances the Taiwanese American community by networking individuals interested in professional and career development, while emphasizing the preservation of Taiwanese American identity. TAP provides resources and programs that inspire and empower, and help develop and support professionals to become community-oriented leaders.
As part of the local community and under the Taiwanese American Citizens League, TAP focuses on Leadership, Identity, Networking, and Citizenship.
TAP is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization through its parent, Taiwanese American Citizens League (TACL).
TAPS and TAP-Seattle
In March 2004, a group of energetic Taiwanese American professionals in Seattle formed the Taiwanese American Professional Society (TAPS) as a platform for young Taiwanese and Asian Americans in the Greater Seattle area to network and support each other.
The inaugural TAPS event was a Career Panel held at the Taiwan Center on April 2004. To our delight, the panel of seasoned professionals held a lively discussion with 40-50 attendees. From there, TAPS grew from the original few to over 500 members of all ethnicity and races.
Our TAPS members began to set up committees and additional ad hoc committees in:
- Professional Development
- Cultural
- Social
- Community Service
TAPS regularly hosted social/networking events such as Jia Bun (dining out), Lim Jiu (happy hours), ice-skating, and hiking.
Our community service efforts flourished with projects such as the Mentorship Program, Scholarship Program for high school students, holiday toy drive and other community outreach and educational events. TAPS also held special events like auction fundraisers, indoor rock-climbing, Lunar Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt, group kayaking, and more.
In 2014, TAPS became TAP-Seattle under the nationwide Taiwanese American Citizens League (TACL) with over a 40 year history. TAP-Seattle joined other Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP) chapters across the country:
- TAP – Atlanta
- TAP – Austin
- TAP – Boston
- TAP – Los Angeles
- TAP – New York
- TAP – Orange County
- TAP – San Diego
- TAP – San Francisco
- TAP – Washington DC
If you attend any of our events, you’re a TAP member! The TAP network supports and connects TAP members across the country. Members who move from one city to another can find their local TAP chapter.
TAP-Seattle continues many of the TAPS events, aligned with the the national TAP chapters. TAPpy Hours are our regular networking happy hour events, annual social events like our Summer BBQ and TAPSgiving bring our members together, and varied cultural and informational events are hosted by our volunteer board and committee members.
We welcome your help if you are interested in volunteering, sharing ideas or suggestions, or joining the board!
